Artist Statement

This is my first posting. I am copping out. First post and I am taking the verbal easy route. Actually, I am just doing this to see how it looks when I write. Heah! I'm a visual person - what do you expect. Words are images, too. So, to bring this first non-post to a close, here is a brilliant cut-and-paste of my artist statement. It will likely be the most grammatically correct post from here on in:

My work examines what effect society's collective failure to act is having on our surroundings and on other parts of the world. The work explores the concept that we are responsible, both environmentally and socio-economically, in this reluctance to act and intervene. At its core, the pieces are often rooted in questions of our personal spirituality and morality. Compositions are calculated and controlled and the imagery created is intended to stand against our chaotic society and the lack of control an individual has over their place in it.
My art practice is wide in scope although most concepts manifest as oil paint on board / canvas. My work tends to fall into the figurative tradition. Metal has become a common compositional element. I use it to evoke a duality: on one hand creating an organic harmony with the painting in order to induce a meditative quality; while at the same time creating a tension between the obtrusive metal partnered with a serene image.
